{"id":2630,"date":"2026-02-15T20:51:32","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:51:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=2630"},"modified":"2026-02-15T20:51:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T18:51:32","slug":"five-pf-councilors-in-kabwe-resign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=2630","title":{"rendered":"FIVE PF COUNCILORS IN KABWE RESIGN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five Patriotic Front (PF) councilors in Kabwe have\u00a0resigned from the party citing internal hostility and disagreements over the treatment of\u00a0their\u00a0Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga.<\/p>\n<p>The five councillors who include Sam Mhone of Ngungu Ward, Watson Mwale of Chamanimani Ward, Kayombo Mihova of Muwowo West Ward, Moses Mumba of Muwowo Ward of Bwacha Constituency, and Luansanse Ward\u2019s, Austine Kunda of Kabwe Central have since aligned with the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) and endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema as their sole presidential candidate ahead of the August general elections.<\/p>\n<p>ZANIS reports that Muwowo West Councilor Kayombo Mihova and his Chamanimani counterpart, Watson Mwale, who represented the five at a media briefing this afternoon, said the councilors have witnessed the developments of the UPND and now seen the vision of the UPND government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe used to criticise the UPND\u2019s enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and other developmental projects soon after they assumed office because the country was facing teething problems but they have delivered and there is nothing to criticise,\u201d said Mr Mihova.<\/p>\n<p>And Mr Mwale said the five will start campaigning for President Hichilema basing their campaigns on the developmental projects that have been implemented by the government.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, acting PF Bwacha Constituency Chairperson, Levy Chikungu, announced\u00a0that the 45 ward officials from all the 15 wards of Bwacha, and 11 constituency officials\u00a0could no longer associate with what they described as a \u201ctoxic atmosphere\u201d within the former ruling party.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0expressed concern over what he\u00a0termed hostility directed at\u00a0Mr\u00a0Mushanga and his associates, allegedly emanating from the party\u2019s district structures and national leadership.<\/p>\n<p>According\u00a0to Mr Chikungu, tensions escalated after\u00a0Mr\u00a0Mushanga and other PF Members of Parliament supported Bill 7.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0argued that the legislators backed the Bill \u201cwith good reasons,\u201d but were met with anger from the party\u2019s top leadership, culminating in what\u00a0he\u00a0described as unconstitutional expulsions.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Chikungu\u00a0alleged that the district party leadership issued directives instructing members to sever contact with the Member of Parliament,\u00a0a move\u00a0which he said\u00a0the Bwacha officials rejected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis trajectory is based on malice, personal hatred and is void of political decency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hostility towards\u00a0Mr\u00a0Mushanga appears to predate the controversy surrounding Bill 7,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Chikungu\u00a0disapproved of what\u00a0he\u00a0called confusion and ego-driven leadership at the party\u2019s apex and within its alliance structures, stating\u00a0that such actions were undermining the interests of the country and deviating from the founding principles of the PF under its late leader, Michael Sata.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that\u00a0the\u00a0PF party\u00a0officials announced that they are repositioning themselves politically to support\u00a0Mr\u00a0Mushanga in his bid to seek another term of office.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five Patriotic Front (PF) councilors in Kabwe have\u00a0resigned from the party citing internal hostility and disagreements over the treatment of\u00a0their\u00a0Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga.
