Motorists and economists have welcomed the Road Transport and Safety Agency\u2019s (RTSA) decision to transition to a cashless payment system, describing the move as timely and progressive in improving service delivery and revenue transparency.<\/p>\n
RTSA had announced that effective 1st March, 2026, all payments for its services will be conducted through cashless platforms countrywide, in line with Government\u2019s digital transformation agenda.<\/p>\n
Motorists interviewed by ZANIS expressed excitement over the development, citing reduced congestion and improved convenience.<\/p>\n
Motorist John Chikopala said the new system will eliminate long queues and make payments easier.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is excellent compared to what has been happening. I won\u2019t have to queue anymore. I will just use my phone, pay, get the receipt, and everything is done,\u201d Mr Chikopala said.<\/p>\n
Another motorist, Sinoya Ngoma, said the move reflects global trends and allows motorists to make payments from anywhere.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe world has changed. You don\u2019t need to queue to make a simple payment. You can even pay from home,\u201d Mr Ngoma said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, economist Kampamba Shula described the cashless payment system as a positive development for public finance management.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt strengthens government revenue collection by reducing leakages and improving transparency because every transaction is digitally recorded,\u201d Mr Shula said.<\/p>\n
He added that the system will reduce service delays and transaction costs, promote financial inclusion, and support Zambia\u2019s digital economy goals.<\/p>\n
RTSA has assured the public that no extra charges will be incurred and that guidance will be provided at all service centres.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
