The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), with support from the government of Korea, has donated 10 tablets and two motorbikes to the Ministry of Agriculture under the Smart Farming for Sustainable Livelihoods project in Zambia.<\/p>\n

The donation, valued at K350,000, is aimed at optimizing horticulture and building capacity among farmers and Ministry staff through smart farming practices.<\/p>\n

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Ministry, Permanent Secretary for Technical Services John Mulongoti, represented by Deputy Director Alick Daka, said the project will revitalize climate-smart practices in agriculture and complement government efforts to boost production, household incomes and best farming practices.<\/p>\n

\u201cEquipping them with advanced technical competencies in protected cultivation systems is essential for climate-responsive and market-oriented agriculture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

FAO Country Representative Suze Filippini described the donation as a strategic investment in stronger extension systems, modernizing service delivery, and accelerating knowledge transfer.<\/p>\n

She thanked the government of Korea for its support and commended Zambia\u2019s commitment to improving the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n

And Korean Government representative Jaehyeong Yu emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration and support across the agricultural value chain, while FAO\u2019s Lead Technical Officer Leone Maglioccheti noted that technology must be tailored to specific projects.<\/p>\n

FAO Project Coordinator Cornelius Zemba disclosed that the four-year project, launched last year, is currently being implemented in Balastone (Lusaka) and Kanakantapa (Chongwe District).<\/p>\n
