The latest Agrometeorological bulletin issued by the Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) has shown that most parts of the country have received above-normal rainfall.<\/p>\n
The above-normal rainfall was recorded from the period 10th<\/sup>\u00a0to 20th<\/sup>\u00a0January 2026.<\/p>\n The Agrometeorological Bulletin further indicates that during the forecast period, the soil moisture saturation in most parts of the country averaged between 90 and 100 percent.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the ZMD has forecast widespread rainfall anticipated across the country from January 21st<\/sup>\u00a0to 31st<\/sup>, 2026.<\/p>\n \u201cWidespread rainfall anticipated across Zambia from 21st<\/sup>\u00a0to 31st<\/sup>\u00a0January, 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n The department has projected flash floods and flooding in flood-prone areas during the forecast period.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cFlood-prone areas are likely to experience flash floods and flooding during the forecast period,\u201d the Agrometeorological bulletin read.<\/p>\n On the part of the farmers, ZMD has advised farmers to suspend land preparation and planting in low-lying and waterlogged fields to avoid seed rot and poor crop establishment.<\/p>\n Farmers have been further counselled to improve field drainage to allow excess water to flow away from crop fields.<\/p>\n ZMD also urged farmers to apply top-dressing fertiliser cautiously and to refrain from applying fertilisers during heavy rains.<\/p>\n The department cautioned farmers to scout for pests such as fall armyworms and diseases constantly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The latest Agrometeorological bulletin issued by the Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) has shown that most parts of the country have received above-normal rainfall.
