President Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia is ready to collaborate with other African nations to scale up interventions aimed at mitigating the negative effects of climate change.<\/p>\n

President Hichilema has called for stronger political will and clear financing mechanisms to support climate change adaptation across the continent.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a virtual African Union leaders\u2019 meeting on climate adaptation at State House, President Hichilema stressed the need to intensify efforts that address the growing climate challenges facing Africa.<\/p>\n

He noted that climate change has already affected key sectors such as water security, underscoring the urgency of mobilising adequate financing.<\/p>\n

The President emphasised that Africa must speak with one voice in advocating for climate\u2011resilient infrastructure and solutions.<\/p>\n

He lamented that the continent continues to bear the brunt of climate impacts largely caused by other regions.<\/p>\n

Mr Hichilema reaffirmed government\u2019s readiness to mobilise resources and invest in climate adaptation across various sectors, including agriculture and energy.<\/p>\n

And Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change Chairperson, William Ruto, who is also Kenyan President said climate adaptation remains critical for Africa\u2019s survival.<\/p>\n

President Ruto also commended the African Development Bank for its commitment to funding climate resilience initiatives.<\/p>\n

The President further highlighted the need for increased knowledge\u2011sharing on best practices, noting that without coordinated efforts from partners, progress will remain limited.<\/p>\n

He also applauded President Hichilema for his dedication to addressing climate challenges.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Global Center on Adaptation Supervisory Board Chairperson Macky Sall stressed the importance of private and grant funding to support Africa\u2019s adaptation agenda.<\/p>\n

And African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf also called for massive, equitable and predictable financing for adaptation and resilience.<\/p>\n
