The Agriculture Technical and Professional Staff Union of Zambia (ATPSUZ) has commended the government for its commitment to paying farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).<\/p>\n
Union General Secretary, Stephen Maleki, says the payments show dedication by the government to support farmers\u2019 livelihoods and agricultural sustainability.<\/p>\n
Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Mr Maleki urged farmers to reinvest wisely, especially in inputs like pesticides, to increase productivity without relying solely on government aid.<\/p>\n
He further encouraged\u00a0farmers\u00a0to increase efforts in the production of staple food crops\u00a0alongside cash crops\u00a0such as soya beans\u00a0for\u00a0income.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mr Maleki has noted that while maize mainly\u00a0ensures\u00a0food security, cash crops\u00a0meet\u00a0other\u00a0household\u00a0needs.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0stated that the union\u00a0is working closely with the government to keep\u00a0members\u00a0satisfied and supported.<\/p>\n
