Lusaka Province Principle Public Relations Officer,\u00a0Logic Lukwanda\u00a0has revealed that the government has allocated 1,500 litres of\u00a0pesticides\u00a0to Chilanga District farmers to control fall armyworm infestation.<\/p>\n
Mr Lukwanda says that the allocation targets\u00a0659 hectares of\u00a0affected\u00a0cropland, which translates into a nine percent infestation rate across the district.<\/p>\n
In a press statement made available to ZANIS in Chilanga, Mr Lukwanda stated that timely intervention by government to secure pesticides, coupled with recent heavy rainfall, has effectively countered infestation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government gives premium to agriculture, and farmers are urged to remain highly alert against potential resurgence.\u201d Mr Lukwanda notes<\/p>\n
Fall\u00a0armyworm\u00a0larvae\u00a0voraciously feed on crops, especially maize, sorghum, and rice.<\/p>\n
