A 200-Megawatt\u00a0Solar\u00a0Power Plant, along with a transmission line connecting to ZESCO’s Kafue West Switching Station, is set to be constructed in Kafue District of Lusaka Province at a cost of approximately US$160 Million.<\/p>\n
AXIAN Energy Green Limited will build the plant on 300 hectares at Kudu Holding Farm, in Kabweza Ward, and will have about 300,000 panels.<\/p>\n
ZANIS reports that speaking during a stakeholders\u2019 engagement meeting, AXIAN Energy Green Regional Asset Manager, Joel Mwale, said the organisation is currently conducting an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA),\u00a0with the\u00a0development\u00a0expected\u00a0to commence\u00a0upon\u00a0completion.<\/p>\n
“The development of this solar plant is expected to start once the study is completed,” he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Mwale noted that the project\u00a0will\u00a0create\u00a0about\u00a0150\u00a0jobs\u00a0for local residents during construction.<\/p>\n
Kafue District Commissioner,\u00a0Maurice Hikapulwe, welcomed the\u00a0investment, stating its significance\u00a0in renewable energy\u00a0and its\u00a0alignment\u00a0with the government’s commitment to increasing electricity generation and promoting economic growth.<\/p>\n
“If successfully implemented, the facility is expected to contribute to improved energy security, create employment opportunities both during construction and operations, and stimulate local development,” he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Kafue Council Chairperson,\u00a0Buumba Malambo, urged AXIAN Energy Green Limited to\u00a0prioritise\u00a0employing youth from the district once construction begins.<\/p>\n
“I want to appeal to you to consider employing youths from the district and ensure gender balance,” she said.<\/p>\n
