Lusaka Province Acting Permanent Secretary,\u00a0Alex Mapushi, has assured farmers in the province that the government has stocked sufficient pesticides to protect maize fields from Fall Armyworm infestation\u00a0in order to\u00a0enhance food security.<\/p>\n
Mr Mapushi emphasised that the pesticides are being\u00a0distributed free of charge, stating that\u00a0anyone found selling the\u00a0products\u00a0should be reported to authorities.<\/p>\n
He has urged farmers across the province to promptly report any suspected Fall Armyworm infestation in their fields to their respective\u00a0District Agricultural Coordinators (DACO\u2019s).<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mr Mapushi\u00a0revealed that the government has distributed\u00a010,000 liters of pesticides\u00a0across all six districts in the province as part of its\u00a0efforts\u00a0to\u00a0prevent crop losses from\u00a0pest attacks.<\/p>\n
\u201cTake infestation reports very seriously. Do not ignore them or assume it is nothing,\u201d Mr Mapushi said.<\/p>\n
Mr Mapushi further noted that the province\u00a0is receiving\u00a0good\u00a0rainfall, except\u00a0in parts\u00a0of\u00a0Luangwa District\u00a0and\u00a0Chiawa area of Kafue, which have recorded minimal rainfall.<\/p>\n
He said despite these challenges, the Lusaka Provincial Administration\u00a0remains\u00a0optimistic about a\u00a0bumper harvest\u00a0and\u00a0is committed to combating\u00a0the pest.<\/p>\n
