Government says it recognizes the vital role the private sector plays in creating job opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n
Minister of Sport, Youth and Arts Elvis Nkandu says job creation not only empowers youths but also contributes significantly to the country\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n
He cited Choppies Stores as one of the companies contributing meaningfully to youth empowerment.<\/p>\n
Mr Nkandu commended the retail chain when he visited the Leopards Hill branch to familiarise himself with its operations.<\/p>\n
He appreciated Choppies for investing in Zambia\u2019s economy and creating over 2,400 direct jobs for young people.<\/p>\n
\u201cChoppies play a critical role in our economy by creating jobs and supporting local suppliers. Every store opened is not just a business venture but a platform for youth empowerment and economic growth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Minister, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Chama Fumba and Director for Arts Esther Ngambi, toured the butchery, bakery, liquor and perishables sections, among others.<\/p>\n
He also thanked Choppies for prioritising locally produced goods and reducing dependence on imported materials.<\/p>\n
Mr. Nkandu assured management that government maintains an open-door policy to ensure the private sector operates in a conducive environment.<\/p>\n
And speaking earlier, Choppies Country Head Schalk Piennar revealed that two new branches, in Serenje and Kasumbalesa are expected to open before year-end.<\/p>\n
Mr Piennar thanked government for its favourable macroeconomic policies that encourage investment, but expressed concern over ongoing electricity challenges.<\/p>\n
