President Hakainde Hichilema has called for continued and enhanced economic partnerships between Egypt and Zambia.<\/p>\n
\n
President Hichilema said he would like to work with the Egyptian government in many areas,\u00a0especially in the\u00a0sphere\u00a0of water harvesting as it borders on food security and economic growth.<\/p>\n
\nHe also said there is need to actualise the people to people\u00a0and government to government businesses for purposes of economic growth\u00a0between the two countries.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe need to continue on the trajectory of the importance of economic development and partnerships on the backdrop of our long standing bilateral relationship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\nHe\u00a0praised\u00a0the Egyptian government for\u00a0its\u00a0support\u00a0to Zambia\u00a0in the pharmaceutical sector.<\/p>\n

The President was speaking at State House\u00a0today\u00a0when he met a delegation of Arab Contractors led by Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia, Mayada Essam.<\/p>\n
\n
Speaking at the same meeting, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development,\u00a0Charles Milupi,\u00a0said the Arab\u00a0contractors have expressed willingness to participate in Zambia’s road construction sector.<\/p>\n
\n
The Arab contractors have\u00a0since inspected some roads\u00a0in the country.<\/p>\n
\nMr Milupi said the Arab\u00a0contractors have also agreed to collaborate on housing infrastructure projects in the country,\u00a0adding that it is a welcome move because Zambia has a huge housing deficit.<\/p>\n
\nAnd Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia,\u00a0Mayada Essam,\u00a0said President Hichilema’s state visit to Egypt in February this year, elevated\u00a0bilateral\u00a0and\u00a0historical relations between\u00a0the two countries.<\/p>\n
\n
Ms Essam noted that economic diplomacy should be the engine of such elevation.<\/p>\n
\n
\u201cFollowing that meeting, I received clear directives from my President to enhance the Egyptian-Zambian partnership through tangible projects on priority sectors through both private and public partnerships,\u201d\u00a0she\u00a0added.<\/p>\n
\nShe said in response to the directives, her team has worked with urgency and commitment to translate the economic vision into partnerships\u00a0through\u00a0working in close collaboration with the Zambian Ambassador to Egypt.<\/p>\n
\n
\u201cWe have built a platform of mutual cooperation rooted in trust, momentum and partnerships,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\n
Meanwhile, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Arab Contractors,\u00a0Ahmed El Assar,\u00a0explained that\u00a0the\u00a0Arab\u00a0Contractors company has been in existence for 70 years.<\/p>\n
\nMr El Assar said the company has constructed over 85 percent of road works in Egypt, 90 percent of water and sewerage projects and 90 percent of electricity plants.<\/p>\n
