President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Zambia’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations Charter and its foundational principles.
President Hichilema has highlighted the importance of a fair and equitable system, emphasising the need for a global framework that benefits all member states equally.
The President was speaking when representatives from the United Nations agencies led by UN Resident Coordinator Beatrice Munthali paid a courtesy call on him at State House today.
During the meeting, President Hichilema reaffirmed Zambia’s dedication to actively participate in the UN’s agenda and initiatives.
The President also highlighted the importance of accelerating progress on the roadmap concerning Africa’s representation and membership on the United Nations Security Council.
He underscored the need for swift action to ensure the continent’s interests are adequately represented in global security decision-making.
Earlier, United Nations Resident Coordinator Beatrice Munthali commended the ongoing efforts to optimise the UN’s operations in the country.
As the UN commemorates 80 years of existence, Ms Munthali called for enhanced cooperation with Zambia, urging both parties to continue building on their existing partnership to achieve mutual development goals.
