Ven You Zambia Limited Sells has called on members of the public to use alternative sources of power such as Solar Powered System to avoid decongesting hydro-electric power energy which leads to load shading in the country.
ZANIS reports that speaking during the Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola, Ven You Zambia Sells Technician Innocent Mumba said the public should start using other alternatives apart from depending on hydro-electricity in the country.
Mr Mumba noted that people’s lives should not be stagnant because of lack of hydro-electric power but should invest more in solar energy because the future is green energy adding that there is no need for members of the public to complain about load shedding every day.
He said people are now learning how effective solar energy is and are now going green using equipment that reduces environmental impact.
“Last year we had about 80 percent of customers who bought our Solar equipment but this year we have less although the year has not yet finished. This is because supply of power was more erratic last year,” he said.
Mr Mumba highlighted the benefits of solar energy, including, environmental advantages adding solar energy does not produce pollution, making it a cleaner source of power.
He said Increased access to solar-powered systems can enable people to have normal lives in both rural and urban areas.
“Although the initial cost of solar-powered systems can be high (around K90,000), it can provide a reliable source of energy,” he said.
However, Mr Mumba noted that the company faces challenges due to the high cost of equipment and dependence on the international market.
He added that despite these challenges, the company is committed to demonstrating the potential of solar power to enable normal life without hydro-electric power.
