KANGWA URGES PERMANENT SECRETARIES TO MAINTAIN PROFESSIONALISM

Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa has urged Permanent Secretaries and senior management officials in government to maintain neutrality and professionalism during the election period.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kangwa says public service workers particularly those in senior management such as Permanent Secretaries should continue serving the people of Zambia with neutrality and professionalism during this period.

He stated that the dissolution of Parliament does not create a gap but rather marks a transitional period until the next office bearers are appointed.

Speaking at the official opening of the 5th Senior Public Service Management Meeting in Lusaka today, Mr Kangwa emphasised that elections should not mean a halt in service delivery to the people.

He said work should not stop, now that there are no Members of Parliament stating that it is even more crucial to enhance service delivery during this time.

Mr Kangwa expressed gratitude for the achievements made by the government over the past five years, with the country’s economic growth at 6.4 percent, noting that Zambia’s future looks bright.

“The inflation rate has decreased from 22.1 percent in 2021 to a single-digit number of 6.8 percent in 2026,” he stated.

Mr Kangwa further said government’s strategic investments in renewable energy and efficiency technologies are expected to support the country’s economic growth and employment creation for the people.

Government, through the public service office bearers and sectors such as mining, tourism, and agriculture, among others, has performed well to achieve a positive economic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Mr Kangwa highlighted that the laid-out regulations and expectations for public servants seeking to engage in politics must be adhered to, in accordance with the Presidential directive and the Code of Ethics, which required that they resign by May 15, 2026.

The meeting was held under the theme, “Consolidating Gains, Ensuring Continuity, and Delivering Effective Services to Our People.”
