Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, has encouraged the Public Service Vehicles (PSV’s) operators in the transport sector, to promote self-regulatory approach as they conduct their businesses following the recent lifting of the ban on night travel by government to ensure road safety.
Mr Tayali said Public Service Vehicles operators must ensure that they operate under the Fleet Safety Management Policy which looks at how road worthy their fleet of vehicles are and how regularly they are being serviced.
He said this in Solwezi yesterday in response to a press query by ZANIS, on what stringent measures the government is putting in place to ensure road safety following the lifting of the ban on night travel of Public Service Vehicles.
Mr Tayali has appealed to the operators not to subject their drivers to fatigue saying when they are going on long distances, there is need to make provisions for a co-driver.
He expressed happiness that since the government lifted the ban on night travel of Public Service Vehicles which came into effect on April 20,2026, the country has not recorded fatal road traffic accidents involving PSV’s.
