PETAUKE LIVESTOCK MARKET REOPENED AFTER K2.8 MILLION REHAB

THE Petauke District Farmers Association (PDFA) has commended the government for the rehabilitation and handover of the Livestock Service Market Center, describing it as a significant boost to livestock production and economic empowerment in the district.

The centre, which was initially constructed between 2006 and 2008, was rehabilitated in 2025 at a cost of K2.8 million, and has since been opened for operations.

Speaking when association members inspected the facility, PDFA Chairperson Charity Njongolo, represented by PDFA Forestry Representative Charles Hamutiki, said the centre will enhance farmers’ productivity and contribute to the country’s livestock export agenda.

Mr Hamutiki emphasised the need for collective responsibility in managing the facility.

“This investment is very big, it needs our concerted efforts as DFA, and everyone who is going to be part and parcel of the operations of this facility,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDFA Women’s Fora Chairperson Gift Phiri said the facility has inspired more women to venture into livestock farming.
