Government has partnered with Total and Puma Energy to expand the Jet A1 Fuel Farm at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport as the country continues to position itself as a regional transport and logistics hub

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Lusaka, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, says the 12.7 million dollars project is critical to enhancing operational efficiency, improving fuel reliability and reducing aircraft turnaround times.

“I am directing Zambia Airports Corporation Limited to extend similar Public-Private Partnership initiatives for fuel storage and supply infrastructure to provincial airports across the country,” said Mr Tayali.

He also called on stakeholders to push for a deliberate agenda towards increasing aviation cargo volumes, in order to unlock new markets for local producers and enhance the overall contribution of the aviation sector to economic growth.

And Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) Managing Director Urvesh Desai, said reliable and efficient fuel infrastructure is fundamental to attracting airlines, supporting cargo operations, and enabling tourism and trade.

Meanwhile, Puma Energy General Manager Zweletini Mlotshwa, said the fuel farm will solidify the country’s standing as a premium aviation hub and provide a superior experience to airline operators.

The fuel farm is being financed through a Public-Private Partnership model, and is expected to be completed in the next 18 months.
