Lupososhi District Commissioner Simon Mwenya says the district has recorded notable progress in infrastructure development, health service delivery, education and social welfare programmes.

Mr Mwenya has disclosed that the government is constantly reminding contractors in the district to expedite works on key projects to ensure timely completion, particularly in the education sector, construction of chiefs palaces and Health sector.

He noted that the upgrading of Chungu rural health centre, into a district hospital, marks a significant milestone in improving access to healthcare services.

Mr Mwenya stressed that the hospital now has a newly constructed mortuary, laboratory and other essential facilities, which will help reduce the burden on residents who previously had to transport bodies over 70 kilometres to Kawambwa.

“People faced challenges of death because of the distance, but with the construction of a mortuary at Chungu, has changed the narrative,” he said.

He added that the government has already allocated K4 million through the Constituency Development Fund Committee (CDFC) to procure mortuary and laboratory equipment, which will soon make the facilities fully operational.

Meanwhile, the District Commissioner has commended the impact of the free education policy, stating that it has led to a significant increase in school enrolment.
