MINISTER of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa says President Hakainde Hichilema is committed to ensuring the country delivers a peaceful election that upholds democratic tenets.
Mr Mweetwa said President Hichilema remains determined to safeguard Zambia’s democratic credentials by guaranteeing an electoral process that is transparent, credible and free from violence.
He was speaking when he officially opened a two-day media training workshop for journalists from across the country, organized by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) in Choma.
Mr Mweetwa, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, called on the media to be truthful and factual in their reporting during the election period, noting that responsible journalism plays a critical role in shaping public discourse and preventing the spread of misinformation.
“Journalists are custodians of truth. Your reporting shapes public perception, national unity and peace. It is therefore important that during the election period you remain factual, balanced and professional,” Mr. Mweetwa said.
Meanwhile, IBA Director General, Webster Malido, said the training programme is aimed at strengthening ethical and professional reporting among journalists ahead of the electoral period.
