Grief has engulfed Chikupili Secondary School in Luano District, Central Province, following the sudden death of a 16-year-old pupil who collapsed on the school premises.
The form 2 learner is reported to have collapsed around 14:00 hours on Tuesday.
According to her uncle, Lastone Chitebete, who is a former Head teacher at the school, the girl Mizilia Mulamata, had shown no signs of illness.
“She reported for classes in the morning and appeared perfectly fine. There was nothing unusual about her health or behaviour,” Mr Chitebete who is the uncle of the deceased said.
He explained that he was at home when he received a distress call from a teacher, informing him that the learner had collapsed.
Mr Chitebete explained that he rushed to the school and immediately transported her to Chikupili Rural Health Post, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
And Central Province Police Commanding Officer, Lemakani Chirwa, said police received the report of Sudden and Unnatural Death through Masansa Police Post which is under Mkushi police station.
Mr Chirwa disclosed that matter was reported by Mr Chitebeta, aged 60, of Chikupili area in Mkushi district.
He explained that the deceased was staying with the reporter, who is a retired teacher at Chikupili Secondary School where she was learning in Form 2.
“The now deceased went to school and knocked off at 13:00 hrs. She went home, but later returned to the school to see her aunt who is the reporter’s wife Eunice Chimika, a teacher at the same school,” said Mr Chirwa.
He explained that the reporter was later informed that his niece had collapsed, upon which he took her to the clinic.
“The Brought In Dead (BID) certificate was issued, the deceased’s body was deposited at Masansa Mini Hospital awaiting post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death and burial. The Inquiry File has been opened,” said Mr Chirwa.
