NWASCO, WATERAID DONATE K110,000 SANITARY TOWELS TO MULALIKA SCHOOL

The National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO), in partnership with WaterAid, has donated sanitary towels valued at K110,000 to 400 learners at Mulalika Primary and Secondary Schools in Chongwe District.

The donation is aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and keeping girls in school.

Speaking during the donation, NWASCO Secretary to Council Andrew Mwansa said the initiative forms part of the institution’s broader commitment to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) standards in schools and communities.

Mr Mwansa emphasised that access to sanitary products was essential to ensuring that girls attend classes consistently and performed to their full potential.

He highlighted the importance of menstrual health management in reducing absenteeism among female learners.

Mr Mwansa noted that many girls missed school due to lack of access to sanitary materials, a challenge he said contributed to poor academic performance and early school dropout.

“This donation is not just about providing sanitary towels, it is about restoring dignity, promoting confidence, and ensuring that no girl misses school because of her natural biological process”, he said.

Chongwe District Education Board Secretary, Joseph Chanda who was represented by Education Standards Officer Open Distance Learning Magdalene Chabu expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the donation would significantly benefit the 400 learners who often faced challenges in accessing sanitary products.
