ZNUT CALLS FOR DEPLOYMENT OF NURSES TO SCHOOL HEALTH ROOMS

The Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) in North-Western Province has called on government to urgently strengthen health support systems in schools by attaching qualified nurses to school health rooms across the country.

ZNUT Provincial Director Setty Maseka emphasised that leaving the Health rooms to be run by guidance teachers is not enough adding that there is need for the presence of trained medical personnel.

“We appeal to the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health to seriously consider deploying qualified nurses to health rooms in our schools to ensure the smooth running of these facilities,” Mr Maseka said.

He noted that teachers are often forced to assume responsibilities beyond their professional training when learners fall ill during school hours.
