Stakeholders in Northern Province have called for intensified public sensitisation on the electoral process following the enactment of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act Number 13 of 2025.
The call was made during a stakeholders’ meeting on understanding the electoral process, organised by Diakonia Zambia, a Swedish-founded Non-Governmental Organisation.
The meeting brought together various civil society organisations and community representatives from across Northern Province.
Governance, Elections, Advocacy, Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia, Northern Chapter representative, David Mwamba, expressed concern that many citizens remained unaware of the reforms.
“At least if we had the constitution translated into all the major local languages, it would be better. You saw what happened to Bill 7, it had good clauses that could have benefited the general welfare of the people,” Mr Mwamba said.
Meanwhile, Kasama Christian Community Care Programmes Manager, Peter Mumba, urged citizens to take keen interest in the ongoing electoral process to ensure meaningful participation.
