The Lusaka Magistrate Court has convicted and fined Lusaka businessman Harry Findley K180,000 and K60,000, or six and four months imprisonment, respectively, in default.
This is in a matter where Acting Chief Resident Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya-Okoh, has found the businessman guilty of being in possession of more than one valid passport and a forged immigration stamp.
ZANIS reports that particulars of the offences are that on 3rd October, 2022, in Lusaka, Mr Findlay had possession of more than one Zambian passport.
It is further alleged that one of his passports bore a fake endorsement stamp bearing the office name of Mwami Immigration Office dated 23rd September, 2022.
Magistrate Munyinya-Okoh noted that the law does not allow for citizens to hold more than one passport at a time without lawful justification.
In mitigation, Mr Findlay’s lawyers told the court that the now convict has a medical condition that has been clearly stated on the court records.
They further pleaded for leniency, saying Mr Findlay is not just a first-time offender but also a provider, father, grandfather, and employer.
