An inferno has swept through Mansa sugar plantation in Fikombo area in Chembe district resulting in the destruction of 32 hectares of the plantation.

 

Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, Mwaka Yuyi has confirmed the incident to ZANIS.

 

Mr Yuyi disclosed that the incident occurred between August 1st around 14:00 hours and August 2nd around 06:00 hours.

 

He added that the bush fire was started by unknown people in the nearby bush in the Fikombo area.

 

“The fire became wild and later migrated into the sugar plantation and efforts to try and quench the fire proved futile as it was too rampant to be contained. As a result, 32 hectares of the sugar farm was destroyed,” Mr Yuyi said.
